Baptism

Baptism

Baptism is God's most beautiful and magnificent gift. . . .We call it gift, grace, anointing, enlightenment, garment of immortality, bath of rebirth, seal, and most precious gift. It is called gift because it is conferred on those who bring nothing of their own; grace since it is given even to the guilty; Baptism because sin is buried in the water; anointing for it is priestly and royal as are those who are anointed; enlightenment because it radiates light; clothing since it veils our shame; bath because it washes; and seal as it is our guard and the sign of God's Lordship.

BAPTISM PREPARATION

Parents and godparents will prepare for baptism using the "Belonging: Baptism in the Family of God" study with Fr Mike Schmitz. Access to the study will be provided once the Baptism Information Form, and the godparent eligibility forms are completed and returned to the parish office along with a donation for materials and the child's birth certificate.

BAPTISM CLASSES

Baptism classes prepare parents and godparents to understand their roles and responsibilities in raising their child in the Catholic faith. After completion of the Baptism preparation video series, parents and godparents will gather for a 90 minute follow up meeting to discuss the content and review details about the Rite of Baptism. These follow up meetings will take place on the 2nd Monday each month from 7PM-8:30PM. Contact the office of Religious Education at 345-6201 for information about baptism classes.

BAPTISM CELEBRATIONS

Baptism will be celebrated during daily 8:30AM Mass Friday, Saturday Vigil Mass at 5:00PM or Sunday Mass at 8AM or 10AM. Baptism will be scheduled and confirmed following parents and godparents completion of their baptism class.
