First Holy Communion
Meaningful experiences that help children and their parents understand, prepare for, and celebrate the Sacraments.
Preparing for Sacraments is a journey of faith for the student as well as the family. The Diocese of Sacramento requires 2 years of preparation to receive Sacraments.
Families who wish to prepare their children to receive the Eucharist and celebrate first holy communion must successfully complete a foundation year of faith formation and regular participation in the Mass. Families unable to participate regularly in faith formation, and struggle to attend Mass regularly, will be invited to repeat their foundation year before moving on to prepare for first holy communion.
As part of their preparation for their First Reconciliation children are taught the basic prayers of the Church, The Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be and the Act of Contrition.
In order to make a proper confession, children are taught the Ten Commandments to give them a basic understanding of God's Law. Before receiving the Sacrament, children are taught how to make a good examination of conscience.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
As part of preparation to receive their First Communion, children begin by establishing regular habits of attending Mass every Sunday and Faith Formation classes. Children are taught about the True Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and as well as parts of the Mass, and how to properly receive the Sacrament.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION PREPARATION
Families preparing for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion will meet monthly on the 2nd Wednesday from 6:00-7:30pm for additional preparation and fellowship with their class.
