First Sacraments

Meaningful experiences that help children and their parents understand, prepare for, and celebrate the Sacraments.

Preparing for Sacraments is a journey of faith for the student as well as the family. The Diocese of Sacramento requires 2 years of preparation to receive Sacraments.

As part of their preparation for their First Reconciliation children are taught the basic prayers of the Church, The Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be and the Act of Contrition.

In order to make a proper confession, children are taught the Ten Commandments to give them a basic understanding of God's Law. Before receiving the Sacrament, children are taught how to make a good examination of conscience.

As part of preparation to receive their First Communion, children begin by establishing regular habits of attending Mass every Sunday and Religious education classes. Children are taught about the True Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist and as well as parts of the mass, and how to properly receive the Sacrament.

Families preparing for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion meet on the second Wednesday each month from 6-7:30PM. This is an opportunity for age level instruction, and hands on activity, that engages students while deepening their understanding of the faith. The 2019-2020 schedule follows:
